Hello everyone
Welcome to my new Blog for Soap Making School.
If you are already a soap maker, welcome home. If you have not explored soap making, welcome aboard.
This Blog is going to cover all different areas of Soap Making, Cosmetic Making, Spa product making, Candle making and everything involved with the craft of natural beauty products.
Here is a little bit about me and where I came from as far as soap making and toiletries.
I started soap making in 1997. This was scary because I was afraid to get close to the sodium hydroxide that is a main ingredient for soap making.
It was a sunny summer day in Vancouver Canada, and I sent my 2 young children off to see their grandparents while I made soap for the first time.
I phoned a few people who lived near me to make them aware that I was about to make soap for the first time and if they did not hear from me in the next hour, they should come and check on me.
I set myself up in the back yard and stepped far away from the water that I poured the sodium hydroxide into. Everything turned out really well. The soap turned out. The scent did not, the color was… okay.
Since then I have lost count of the soap batches I have made, but I keep every recipe written in a book and date it.
This is a good habit to get into, especially when you are planning on making soap to earn money. it’s very frustrating when you make a batch that everyone loves and you did not write down the specific ingredients you used.
So very shortly after I began making soap, I entered a craft show through Girl Guides. It was not a big deal, just a fun event. Since I was a Girl Guide Leader, I was expected to participate. It was only a 3 hour craft show.
A lady approached me while I was just about getting ready to pack up. She told me she was from the Vancouver International Airport and she was a purchaser for some of the gift shops. She asked me if I was interested in supplying the shops. I was shocked and excited. I ran out the next business day, registered my company name “Mother Earth Creations” purchased a business license and never looked back.
Through all of the changes my life has brought over the years, soap making has always brought me comfort and has kept me sane.
I hope you will, or already do, know the feeling that comes with making something as pure and useful as handmade natural soap.
