Hot process soap making begins with the same soap making techniques as cold process soap making.

You heat your oils, you prepare your sodium hydroxide and water, and you bring your soap to trace.

This is where the similarities end.

With cold process soap making, at this point you would scent the soap, add color or herbs, put the soap in a mold, and put it in a safe spot where you can allow it to go through the saponification process on  its  own.

With hot process soap making, after bringing the soap to trace, you would accelerate the saponification process by heating the soap batch.

I prefer to use a double boiler method.  I find it gives me more control over the batch and does not dry out the soap as much as the crock pot method can.

Once the soap has saponified, you would add your scent and color or herbs along with any special oil you want to add, such as Jojoba or Hemp Seed oil.

You would then put the soap in the mold.

This is the hot process soap method that I have used for 14 years, and it is the one I teach through soap making videos at soap making school.
