Week #1

natural indigo soap making at soap making schoolIndigo Blue Soap – Cold Process Soap Making

This will be our first soap  that we make for the class.  This soap making video includes Natural Indigo Blue as a color.  This is completely optional.  You can use any natural color you like.
We will also swirl some natural gold mica into the batch.
This is a traditional Cold Process soap which is also known as a lye soap.

When the soap is completed, there will be no lye present in the soap, all of the lye
will be attached to oil molecules and this will cause the lye and oil to chemically
change into natural handmade soap.  This is how natural soaps are made.

You will be making this batch from
start to finish (up until you put it in the soap mold) and in week #2 we unveil the soap.

The main ingredients we will be using are Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Distilled Water,
Natural Indigo Blue Powder and Natural Gold Mica

Week #3

soap making school quebracho rosemary mint soapQuebracho Rosemary Mint Soap – Cold Process Soap Making

I like to explore using unusual but natural ingredients.  I have not seen the Quebracho used
as a soap color so I investigated the ingredient and found it was skin safe and natural.

Quebracho comes from a South American tree that is used to color fabrics and wool.  It makes
a very nice rich brown color when it is used as a natural colorant in soap making.

This video will show you how to make this Cold process soap and we will also be adding
Rosemary and Peppermint essential oil to give it a nice invigorating scent.

The light color in this soap is Myrobalan.  This will be the base color and we will add a swirl of the darker Quebracho.

Myrobalan is the ground nuts of the Terminalia Chebula tree. It is native to Nepal, India and Thailand.
The color in this soap is completely optional, you can get a similar color by using Turmeric instead of Myrobalan and Cocoa powder instead of Quebracho.

The ingredients in this soap are Soy Bean Oil, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Distilled Water, Quebracho, Myrobalan, Rosemary Essential Oil and Peppermint Essential Oil.

These 4 tea lights represent the 4 elements.  Earth Wind, Water and Air.  Each element has a special
function and is a true aromatherapy candle.

We will be making all 4 types in the video.

There are no rules when it comes to calling a candle an aromatherapy candle, but most of those
candles on the market are filled with chemical fragrance oils and not actual oils from a plants essence.

Chemical Fragrance oils can be quite harmful to you because there are no laws that force the manufacturer
of the Fragrance Oils to inform the consumer what these chemicals are.

The 4 Element Tea Lites have special blends of Essential Oils that allow you to safely enjoy the fragrance
of the true scent.

Ingredients: Soy Wax, Candle Wax Dye, Essential Oils

soap making school hot process soap makingLime Soap – Hot Process Soap Making

Lime and other Citrus Essential oils are usually not successful in Cold Process soap.
These essential oils are too delicate to withstand the chemical reaction that the ingredients
must go through in order to turn into soap (saponification).

This is where hot process soap making comes in handy.

In this video, you will see exactly how to make a perfect hot process soap.
Timing is everything and you will see step by step when to add the ingredients
and what the soap will look like at each stage.

This method has converted a lot of hard core cold process soap makers.
It’s simple and quick.  Hot process soap allows you to use a lot of natural colors
that might fade in the cold process soap making process.

Lime Soap ingredients consist of Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Distilled Water,
Crushed Lime Leaves, Lime Essential Oil and Shea Nut Butter.
